The most endangered feline in the world and rated critically endangered, only about 225 Spanish lynx remain in the wild. Their population was devastated when their main food source-wild rabbits-perished from a disease released to control the rabbit population. Today, human encroachment, loss of habitat and illegal hunting are the greatest threats to their survival. The lynx was a symbol of strength in ancient Iberian and Roman cultures.
