Spanish Lynx

Spanish (Iberian) Lynx (Felis pardina – critically endangered)

Spanish LynxThe most endangered feline in the world and rated critically endangered, only about 225 Spanish lynx remain in the wild. Their population was devastated when their main food source – wild rabbits – perished from a disease released to control the rabbit population. Today, human encroachment and loss of habitat to agriculture and illegal hunting for their soft, luxurious coats are the greatest threats to their survival. The lynx was a symbol of strength in ancient Iberian and Roman cultures, but their species struggles to survive today.
