Elephants (Loxodonta Africana vulnerable )
African ElephantAfrican elephants, the largest land animals on earth, are caring creatures who use more than 25 different vocal sounds to communicate with one another. Their numbers are dwindling because of habitat loss and human exploitation. Elephant tusks are used for jewelry and piano keys and as prized trophies of big game hunters. Between 1979 and 1989, their population dropped in half, from 1.2 million to 600,000. Today, only about 470,000 to 700,000 African elephants
remain.
